BBC to broadcast the pope’s Easter message

BBC will be broadcasting Easter-related programming today, including Pope Francis’ Easter Sunday Message and Blessing.

The Holy Father will give his Urbi et Orbi (To the City and the World) on the fourth Easter of his pontificate, which will air on BBC One from 11am until 11:25am today.

Prior to this, Easter Sunday Worship Live from St Albans Cathedral will air from 10am until 11am, again on BBC One. The medieval abbey and cathedral Church of St Alban is the setting for the live broadcast of the Easter Morning service.

Well-loved Easter hymns, including Jesus Christ Is Risen Today and Thine Be The Glory, combine with traditional scripture readings and prayers to celebrate Christ’s resurrection.

The St Albans Cathedral Choir, directed by master of music Andrew Lucas, will sing excerpts from Mass settings by David Thorne and Jonathan Dove, and Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus. The service will be led by the Bishop of St Albans, the Rt Rev. Dr Alan Smith, with a sermon from the Dean, the Very Rev. Jeffery John.
