After an absence of four years, the official guide to the Catholic Church in England and Wales is returning to print.
For more than 200 years, The Catholic Directory has been the definitive guide book to the England and Wales Catholic community, and its pages have charted the rapid expansion and development of our local Church.
In 2014 the publication moved to a fully digital format, but many missed the portability and ease of use of a printed book.
Earlier this year the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales decided to bring back this hugely popular publication, and asked The Universe Media Group (UMG) to resume publication of the title on its behalf.
“It was quite a daunting task,” said UMG Managing Director and Directory editor Joseph Kelly.
“The 2014 edition was actually compiled in 2013, so the information needed significant updating.
“So much has changed within the structures of the Church in the past few years, it was pretty much a case of starting from scratch.” The new 1,000 page luxury hardbound directory has been completely modernised and redesigned, and is in full colour throughout.
Each diocesan bishop has written a review of their diocesan year, making the new directory an informative and readable compendium of the progress of our local Church.
Priced at just £43, including postage, the 2018 Official Catholic Directory of England and Wales contains more than 50 sections.
They cover subjects from comprehensive details on every Catholic parish including Mass times, to Catholic school contact details and information on countless Catholic societies and support organisations.
“The directory has always been a vital reference tool for parish clergy,” said Mr Kelly.
“It’s also very popular with Catholics who travel around the country, and need to find the details of local churches and the correct Mass times. It’s really an absolutely essential reference guide for every Catholic,” he added.
• The 2018 Official Catholic Directory of England and Wales will be on sale from mid-December, but there is a limited print run and copies are selling fast.
