Carly knocks Drake off top spot with Help For Heroes fundraiser

Classical star Carly Paoli, who provided the voice for Pope Francis’ Jubilee Year of Mercy, has knocked international rapper Drake off the top of the iTunes video chart.

The Classical BRIT nominee topped the chart with Liberty – her song in aid of Help For Heroes.

Ms Paoli, whose rendition of Ave Maria was the official song for Pope Francis’ Year of Mercy, told The Catholic Universe: “I am over the moon that the first time I achieve a number one hit is with an amazing song, Liberty and that I recorded it with my wonderful friends from The Invictus Games Choir.

“What makes it even more special is that because proceeds from sales are going to Help For Heroes, it is testament to the fact that people are enthusiastic about supporting a good cause – in this case the brave men and women who have been affected by their service in the Armed Forces.”

As previously reported in The Catholic Universe, Ms Paoli is joined on the track by the Invictus Games Choir, a community choir for serving and veteran personnel from all services, who are wounded, injured or sick, to help them in their recovery. Proceeds from the sale of the single and the video will go to Help For Heroes who support the choir.

The recording choir comprised 12 volunteers from the Invictus Games Choir, representing all branches of the Armed Forces. The group consisted of one serving soldier in the British Army as well as eight Army veterans, one Royal Navy veteran and three Royal Air Force veterans.

Liberty, as well as being released as a standalone single, will feature as the bonus track on Ms Paoli’s forthcoming live album, Live At Cadogan Hall.

The album is a recording of Ms Paoli’s debut UK headline performance at Cadogan Hall, in Chelsea, on 15th February 2018.

Liberty is out now as a standalone single. Live At Cadogan Hall is released on 24th August.
