Vardy’s boots blessed ahead of Euro 2016

England striker Jamie Vardy has had his boots blessed by the patron saint of lost causes prior to England’s first game in the Euro 2016 tournament.

The 29-year-old had his camouflage Nike Hypervenom boots sent to the Italian shrine of St Rita, the patron saint of lost causes, by the Sun on Sunday.

Fr Sebastian Urumbil sprinkled holy water on the boots, the paper said. “For the intercession of St Rita, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, may God bless you and this pair of boots,” he said.

The priest said that St Rita would now protect the England team, so that they can play well.

“St Rita is a universal saint, she is the saint of impossible things so she will be with England,” he said.

“If you pray with the saint, she will assist you. Jamie will always have St Rita with him.”

His club manager at Leicester City, Claudio Ranieri, also prayed at the shrine prior to his team’s surprise Premier League title victory.
